Cortona is a small town arranged around its medieval
core, situated atop a hill. From there, the palazzone can
be reached by a short walk. The situation is best illustrated
graphically: click here for an aerial view of the town
(the green arrow points to the Palazzone).
Accommodation. There are three hotels which will offer
some discount if the conference is mentioned in the reservation
these are the Hotel San
Luca , the simpler but very neat guest house Santa Margherita
(both ca. 20 walking minutes from the conference venue) and
the Hotel Sabrina
(ca. 30 walking minutes to the Palazzone)
Airports. The nearest international airports are Pisa (PSA) and Rome Fiumicino (FCO). You
might want to check out also Florence (FLR) and (at
an acceptable 2,5 hours by train) Bologna (BLQ). Please refer to the airport
website for transfer information to the main train stations of
these cities.
Public transit - Train. Both train stations of
Camucia-Cortona (see
departures
/ arrivals) and Terontola-Cortona (see departures / arrivals) are connected to the town
center by buses (see below). For schedules and fares please refer
to the website of the itailan railways (alternatively, you may also look up the
schedule here).

Taxi service. Taxicabs are available upon request. The
municipality of Cortona has posted this list
of telephone numbers of taxicabs - it is possible that some of
them only speak italian. If you need to arrange a ride please let
us know, we'll be happy to call on your behalf.
Driving directions. From Highway A1 (which connects Rome
with Florence and Bologna) take exit ``Valdichiana''. After
the toll booth, take freeway E45 in direction of Perugia and exit
at ``Cortona San Lorenzo'' (2nd exit). Follow signs to Camucia /
Cortona and, once in Camucia, take route 71 (``SS71'') up the hill to Cortona.
